Books we’ve been reading lately
Ok, these are not necessarily all recommendations… This is the spot in the blog where I get to share books we are reading. Instead of writing a book review about every great book (that’s impossible!) I get to share a little bit about some good ones here. I can not always say whether I love them or not until I’m done with them. So, if there is nothing written beside a book, it probably means that we didn’t finish it yet.
Ok, this is a kids picture book, but it is soooo cute! When a boy reaches into his desk to grab his crayons, he finds a pile of letters instead. They are letters from his crayons explaining why they quit…so creative and super fun!
I might just leave this book up forever. A great inspirational true memoir of the lives Chip and Joanna Gaines. A beautiful story about risk, marriage, commitment and never, never giving up.
I’ve got to be honest, this was not my favorite book. It’s a Middle school age novel full of mystery. To me it seemed dark and a little too creepy. Then why am I sharing it? Well, because my 10 year-old loved it. She thought it was fantastic; loved the mystery, the darkness of it…ah well, we are all different.
Hattie of Big Sky was another favorite for my daughter – it’s been added to my to read pile too!
Here’s another middle school novel, but this one I love! It’s written in free verse so it is a quick read, but don’t let that fool you. The topic (a young girl and her family flee from Vietnam during the war) is deep and the free verse allows you to be there, feeling what it was like and empathizing with refugees everywhere. Truly, a great book.
Blogs (some of my favorite blogs)
Money Saving Sites
Thredup is a huge online clothing and accessories consignment store. It is fabulous. If you are looking for quality clothes on a budget, then this is a great option. This link will get you $10 off your first order if you’d like to try it out.
Yes, you can buy at Thredup, but I have to say, my favorite feature of Thredup is the selling! This has become one of my favorite ways to get rid of clothes. No, you won’t make a fortune. But in my experience you make about the same amount you would make selling your things at a rummage sale. But if you you’ve ever had a rummage sale, you know how much work it is! And that people typically don’t buy a ton of clothes!
To sell with Thredup, you simple order a clean-out bag, fill it up and send it back to them (shipping is free!). Then they process the bag, and list your items on consignment. If your items are super on trend and in season, they may even purchase your items from you upfront. It’s a super easy process and you really can make a bit of money doing it. For example – my last bag brought in over $55!
Ebates
Well, this one is actually a money making site. I put off using this website for a very long time. I thought it was just another gimmick that would take more time and earn me a penny or two. I was wrong! When I finally did decide to try it, I was so mad at myself for not trying it sooner! It is so simple. Basically, it adds an extra click to whatever shopping you are doing online and you automatically earn extra money for whatever you want! So, say you are going to purchase an item on your favorite website. All you have to do is go to the ebates website (once you are signed up), click on the link for your favorite webite, and wahla! When you go and purchase your item (or items), you will earn a percentage of that purchase. Almost like a commission! Like I said, I wish I had tried it earlier. This year, I am saving up my ebates money to use for Christmas presents! Hopefully it will be a “free” Christmas!
