With school winding down, I thought it would be fun to create a little summer genre reading challenge!
First off, I wanted to read more this summer and I wanted to make sure I was getting a diverse selection of books sooooooo, I brainstormed and thought “Wouldn’t it be interesting to read all different genres? To really stretch myself?” and then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if my daughter expanded her book choices too?” Nope, not too sure she will be as excited as I am, but ah well, it’s still a good idea!
And then it came to me… A Summer Genre Reading Challenge
I’ve wanted to help my daughter diversify her reading for quite awhile, so I think this will totally help.
So, here is how it is going to work.
There are no specific guidelines for how long the book should be…just pick a genre suggestion, find a book that fits, and start reading! I’ve included a few books that fit each genre just to get you started.
And because I know that we all have different amounts of time and read at very different speeds, I set up the challenge with three different levels
The Basic Challenge – 1 Book per month – Total 3 Books read
The Mega Challenge 2 Books per month – Total 6 Books read
The Super Challenge 3 Books per month – Total 12 Books read
If you choose the Basic of the Mega Challenge, you get to pick which genre’s you’d like to read. If you go for the Super Challenge, you will need to read one book for every idea category.
Here’s the list along with a few ideas I’ve had for different genres. You don’t have to read any of my suggestions to join the challenge, they are just ideas!
